marc petrovic

Marc Petrovic received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art. His work is included in the collections of the Niijima Museum of Glass in Tokyo, Japan, the Charlotte Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Tucson Museum of Art in Tucson, Arizona, the Racine Art Museum in Racine, Wisconsin, the Arkansas Art Center Foundation in Little Rock, Arkansas, and the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts.

In Petrovic’s Find and Seek Series, letters, in the form of air bubbles, are trapped in clear glass spheres. In some pieces, these spheres are, in turn, trapped in clear glass bottles spelling out words, such as ‘ship’, offering a modern take on ‘ship in a bottle’. In other pieces, these spheres are organized in a grid forming magnified Word Searches with various themes. In each of these works, Petrovic’s intense skill is on full display. His glass work is absolutely exquisite. His complete command of craft allows the artistic intent to drive his work far forward of other glass artists. The work of the Find and Seek Series is extremely demanding and only successful in the hands of a master. The spheres are formed in halves, the letters pressed into the center, the two halves fused, and the final sphere ground and polished to utter perfection. In the Bottle pieces, the spheres are carefully faceted, stacked, bonded, and enclosed in an equally pristine bottle. In the Word Search pieces, the spheres are carefully bonded to a precision formed stainless steel dish and pin which secures it to a given substrate. In both styles of work, the reflections and shadows are absolutely alluring.

Petrovic’s already strong reputation continues to grow with newfound excitement around his latest work. His Hope in a Bottle piece was recently chosen as one of fifteen from across the country for the Manifest Hope Exhibition in Washington, D.C. during Barak Obama’s Inauguration.
