george fellner

George Fellner’s alternate reality photographs are simply astounding. The fact that we perceive space in an actual solid is startling. The fact that we perceive immensity and vastness in something so small is perplexing. The fact that what we know to exist at a large scale in terms of color, composition, and form is repeated over and over again into smaller scales is fascinating. Fellner, through both exacting technique and rare compositional vision, unlocks dream worlds which draw us in to explore. His work sparks our imagination and compels us to contemplate why our sky is blue and why our grass is green. His work heightens our awareness of the world around us. It makes us curious and forces us to wonder what else are we missing.

Fellner’s endless search for the abstractions of reality has evolved through macro-photography, offering limitless material for evocative images. The process begins with the visual exploration of stones and crystals that store information revealing intriguing patterns formed since time immemorial. While the eyes survey the compositions of color, tonal variation, and texture, the mind is stimulated to visualize a myriad of possibilities. Through photographic impressionism, nature’s hidden beauty is extracted from within real-world materials. The act of discovery is then juxtaposed with hidden memories and inner dreams, manifesting as the shutter-click of a captured vision. The creative process results in imaginary realms, evoking ancient and future fantasies, as well as planetary and cosmic-scapes, traversing space, time, and dimension.

George Fellner received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and his Master of Architecture from the University of Florida. Although architecture is his first love, he has approached the art of photography with equal vigor, mastering the medium through intense research and exhaustive experimentation. The appreciation of his extreme talent is just now beginning to spread. His photo work has been exhibited in New Haven, Middletown, and throughout Southeastern Connecticut and has been published in various national journals and business publications. He is a frequent lecturer and advocate for both photography and sustainable design, the latter of which will find him featured at the 2008 AIA Convention in Boston.
