eo’s own Dana Oldfather wins the prestigious William & Dorothy Yeck Purchase Award!!!!!!!  Read the following  press release from Miami University:

“Winners announced in Miami’s Young Painters Competition


Dana Oldfather of Cleveland is the winner of the 2012 Miami University Young Painters Competition for the $10,000 William (Miami ’36) and Dorothy Yeck Award. Winners of the competition, sponsored by Miami’s Hiestand Galleries,School of Fine Arts, were announced Jan. 20. Oldfather was selected for her work “Sage and Elephants.”

Oldfather is a self-taught oil painter who has been in exhibitions in galleries and museums across the country. She was awarded a residency at the Vermont Studio Center and Zygote Press in 2011. She has been twice featured in the New York Times and her work is included in corporate collections including Jones Day, the Cleveland Clinic and the Progressive Art Collection. She is currently represented at the Bonfoey Gallery in Cleveland.

Angie Zielinski of Pocatello, Idaho, received the second place award and $1,500 for “Jump Deep.” Zielinski is currently assistant professor of art at Idaho State University. She received a master’s of fine arts from Bowling Green State University in 2006. Her work has been shown nationally in juried exhibitions.

Caleb Taylor of Kansas City, Mo., won third place and $1,000 for “Gesture Knot.” He received a master’s of fine arts from Montana State University in 2008 and has been awarded several artists fellowships for his work.

Works by the winners and other finalists will be exhibited through Feb. 8 at Hiestand North Gallery.

The 2012 Young Painters Competition was judged by Irene Hofmann, Phillips director and chief curator of SITE Santa Fe…”
